National Friends of Libraries Week
2008 Awards
FOLUSA is pleased to announce a second year of financial awards in conjunction with National Friends of Libraries Week. Supported by the Lana and Michael Porter Foundation, five Friends groups or libraries will each receive $250 in honor of outstanding efforts to recognize Friends during the 2008 celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, October 19-25, 2008. Please see the details below or on the application form for more information. All entries must be accompanied by the official release form.
- Applicants must be current Friends Group, Library, All-in-One, or Associate members of FOLUSA. Membership must be valid through January 31, 2009. Personal members, and those receiving additional newsletters are not eligible. If you are uncertain of your eligibility, please contact FOLUSA prior to preparing your entry.
- Applicants may submit one entry in one of the following categories:
- Public Library Friends Group with Staff (part-time or full-time person employed by library or Friends Groups
- Public Library Friends Groups without Staff
- Academic Friends Group
- School Library or Media Center Friends Group
- State Friends Group
- Applicants must provide a 1-page minimum (2-page maximum) summary of all activities and efforts in conjunction with the celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, October 19-25, 2008. Summary should address the key points mentioned below.
- Your entry materials must include the application form completed in full and the official release form.
- Supporting materials (press releases, photographs, clippings, promotional materials) may be included. No materials can be returned.
- All entries and enclosures may be used by FOLUSA in exhibits, and may be published in News Update or other FOLUSA?publications.
- Applications will be judged on the following:
- Creativity and innovation.
- Involvement of Friends, library staff, Trustees, and/or advisory committee.
- Recognition of Friends group.
- Promotion of Friends group to the community, school, students, and/or faculty.
- Entries must be postmarked or emailed by December 1, 2008.
- Winners will be notified by phone on or before December 15, 2008.
