How Friends Groups Can Help Libraries and Friends Groups in the Gulf Region
Libraries and Friends groups in the Gulf Region still need your help as they try to rebuild. The American Library Association (ALA) has been pleased that a number of Friends Groups have raised funds (through book sales and other efforts) to the ALA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, which will be disbursing funds through state associations to libraries in need in the region.
The American Library Association has been taking the lead, through its Adopt A Library Program to match libraries (and Friends) up with libraries in the region. So far around 300 adoptions have been set up. The libraries need cash donations to help in their rebuilding efforts and not donated books in almost all cases.
If your Friends group is interested in helping out libraries in the Gulf region you can do so by making a contribution to the ALA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, or providing contributions directly to a library in need. For information on the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and links to library specific donation programs please visit www.ala.org/Katrina.
Due to technical difficulties, the video produced by the Mississippi Library Commission is not yet available for download from this site. Please check back soon.
FOLUSA and ReferenceUSA donate $4,000 to the ALA Hurricane Relief Fund.
