Authors Patrick Carman (River of Fire and The House of Power, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers), Dan Koeppel (Banana: The Fate of the Fruit that Changed the World, Penguin), Thomas M. Kostigen (You Are Here: The Surprising Link Between What We Do and What That Does to the Planet, HarperCollins), John Francis, PhD (Planetwalker: 22 Years of Walking, 17 Years of Silence, National Geographic), and William Fox (Making Time, Counterpoint) will discuss both fiction and non-fiction books dealing with environmental issues and concerns. This program will be moderated by Barbara Hoffert, Editor of the Book Review, Library Journal. A book signing will follow.
Patrick Carman, author of River of Fire and The House of Power
Patrick Carman's first book, The Dark Hills Divide (Land of Elyon series) spent over 20 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Patrick worked in advertising for a decade and has also created board games and launched several businesses.
Dan Koeppel, author of Banana: The Fate of the Fruit that Changed the World
Dan Koeppel is a well-known outdoors, nature, and adventure writer who has written for the New York Times Magazine, Outside, Audubon, Popular Science, and National Geographic Adventure, where he is a contributing editor. Koeppel has also appeared on CNN and Good Morning America, and is a former commentator for Public Radio International's Marketplace.
Thomas M. Kostigen, author of You Are Here: The Surprising Link Between What We Do and What That Does to the Planet
Thomas M. Kostigen is coauthor of The New York Times bestseller The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet, One Simple Step at a Time. He writes the "Ethics Monitor" column for Dow Jones MarketWatch, and is a longtime journalist and former Bloomberg News editor. Kostigen has been writing about global warming, the environment, social issues, and government policies for almost two decades and his work has appeared in numerous publications around the world. He is a recognized expert and speaker on social responsibility, including issues such as water, electronic waste, energy consumption and carbon emissions.
William Fox, author of Making Time
William L. Fox is the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship and a National Science Foundation grant, among other awards. He has been a visiting scholar at the Getty Research Institute and a Lannan Foundation Writer in Residence. Fox is the author of several books, including Terra Antarctica, In the Desert of Desire, and the forthcoming Aereality, which will be published by Counterpoint in Winter 2009. He lives in Burbank, CA.
John Francis, PhD, author of Planetwalker: 22 Years of Walking, 17 Years of Silence
John Francis, Ph.D. is the Founder and Director of Planetwalk, a nonprofit environmental education organization. He travels around the world speaking on pilgrimage and change, and on Planetlines, an environmental studies curriculum based on the walking pilgrimage, which he is developing for K-12 schools and universities.
