2008 ALA Annual Conference

FOLUSA will host an Author Tea, a star-studded humor program, three additional author programs, and three workshops for Friends in conjunction with the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, June 26-July 2, 2008. Additional information, including specific authors and locations, will be updated here as available.

FOLUSA is pleased to announce two special offers in conjunction with the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim:

  • Register for a FREE Exhibits Only pass, a $25 value.
  • The "I Love Libraries" Package includes registration at the ALA Advocacy Institute on Friday, June 27, "Exhibits Supreme" limited-access registration at the Conference, and an ilovelibraries.org Advocacy Membership, which includes a monthly e-newsletter, all for $100 (a $125 value).

What is the difference between Exhibits Only, Exhibits Plus and Exhibits Supreme Registration?

  • An Exhibits Only badge is $25 and is good for all 4 days of the exhibits (Saturday-Tuesday) only. Click here to register for a FREE Exhibits Only badge courtesy of FOLUSA.
  • The Exhibits Plus badge is $35, and includes all four days of the exhibits, plus the Opening General Session.
  • The Exhibits Supreme badge is $50, and includes the above, plus the ALA President's Program, Closing Session, and the Auditorium Speaker Series. The Exhibits Supreme badge is included in the "I Love Libraries" package mentioned above.

Join FOLUSA for this traditional author event featuring Ron Carlson (pictured left), Christopher Reich, Rick Wartzman, Brunonia Barry, and Joseph Michelli. Bestselling authors talk about their current and forthcoming books. Books signing to follow the program. Some books will be given away free and others will be available for purchase at a generous discount. Tickets are $35 in advance ($30 for FOLUSA & ALTA members) and $45 onsite.

Library Friends, volunteers, and staff are invited to share best practices and hear from “experts” on membership and board development, fundraising, advocacy, and strategic planning. Roundtable discussions will be moderated by FOLUSA board members.

Best Sellers of a Different Color: Ethnic Writers in America

Join FOLUSA for a unique look at ethnic writers in America. Authors Tracy Brown (Twisted, St. Martin’s Griffin), Bich Minh Nguyen (Stealing Buddha’s Dinner, Penguin), Yxta Maya Murray (King’s Gold, HarperCollins), Nikki Turner (Black Widow, One World/Ballantine), and Nina Revoyr (The Age of Dreaming, Akashic Books) will be joined by other ethnic fiction and non-fiction writers for this enlightening panel discussion. This program will be moderated by Barbara Hoffert, Editor of the Book Review, Library Journal. A book signing will follow.

Academic Friends Groups - the Nuts & Bolts of Making It Work

Whether you have an active academic Friends group or are hoping to develop one, this program is for you! Experts from the FOLUSA board will facilitate a highly interactive discussion of best practices for Friends in the academic setting. Academic Friends are encouraged to mail samples of your membership and publicity materials in advance. FOLUSA will ship these to the program site to display for attendees to review. Details will be posted online and will be included in the next issue of News Update.

Protecting Planet Earth
